Poster Final
Lion- Man is a historic poster I did for a graphic design class. Lion- Man is one of the first African American super heroes who was published by a black man, Orrin C. Evans. This was a real game changer for writers, publishers, and viewers who are of color. I did a bit of research on the comic and went down a deep rabbit hole to find a online copy of it. The comic consist of four stories, Lion- Man, is the third story in the comic.
My first concept was to use the fist to show power over suppression but I wanted to explore other options and the other options weren't working out so I stuck with the first Idea. The background went through a few iterations too. My attempt was to use the comic pow but that seemed too basic so I implemented the African flag and that didn't work, so I was thinking of ways to show black toppling over suppression, and it finally hit me, I went for the paper stack.
I left it white to imply white's oppression and had the black fist bursting through it to show a new era in the black community. I emphasized the date and publication as well. I had revisited this project and made the fist more comic like, adding halftone dots and hatching.
